In our flurry to be ready for this weekend’s elk, deer, and antelope hunters we have been checking cameras every day.  The first two pics were on a deer setup - we were trying to see if a mule deer buck was watering during the day.  What we found was a super pronghorn and trouble.  Not what we wanted to find as it is a very unlikely spot for a pronghorn and we have TOO MANY LIONS…..anybody want to come hunt them when the snow falls?  The other pics are good news for our lady hunter coming to stand hunt on this pond for her first elk.  Trail cameras are incredible tools and the only way we can effectively pull this off.  I will add that we are getting way too much rain today for water to be very effective, but what do you do.  Improvise.  Also one more recent pic of Lucky.

Double Lunged!

Richard S antelope 019web.jpg16 yds one out of six bucks that charged into water with two does.  Richard wasted no time in letting the air out of his first archery pronghorn.  Congrats.  So we are done for a couple days.  Now to get ready for Saturday.  One elk hunter one antelope hunter and two deer hunters.  Gives me shivers.

Brownie escapes

Posted by Wes on 20 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Antelope

A buck we named Brownie watered at 6:30 tonight and nearly joined hands with his ancestors.  It was not his time though as all antelope are not created equal, but all are created paranoid.  Thus he lives and Richard has to sit another day in 92 degree weather.  I think they could market Double bull blinds as saunas.  Don’t worry about me though I’m good, my double door toyota has AC.  We’ll get one tomorrow.

Tom Palmer antelope 014web.jpg

Tom with his wife Joan on their first hunt together, and great success to boot.  We hunted this bachelor herd of 8 bucks hard for the last two days and one finaly got thirsty.  Tom smoked him at 25 yards the buck never slowed down on his way to water.  They sat for 1 1/2 days for 10 seconds of ADRENALINE WOW!  A great pope and young buck with character and mass.  This will go great along side the buck that Tom shot last year on a stalk.  Elk and deer looked great this morning I saw 3 bomber bulls out of 41 total.  Caught a great mule deer buck at a water hole, should have a chance at him there.  Another goat hunter in morning.

Antelope opener

Posted by Wes on 18 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Antelope

We started with our opener for antelope today and the day ended up antelope 1 AE 0.  Did see a pile of elk this morning a couple hundred and I counted 37 bulls 2 over 300″ but most were 3 year olds.  Rob scouted another ranch and watched a spike bull bugling his head off…..he’ll learn.  We’ll get a goat tommorrow.

Finaly a Good Muley

Posted by Wes on 16 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Scouting

Even at a mile I could tell he was a shooter a no doubter and then he laid back down and I never saw him again.  It’s 5 miles from where we last saw “growing pains” but it could have been him…….maybe.  What a relief to see a shooter.  Got another positive set in unit 9 for archery antelope and good news for unit 87 as well.
