Lucky and the young non-typical have been the only consistent bucks I’ve been able to find this summer. They hit the stock tank on the west side every other day and always after midnight. Deep Front and running late are always around, but they don’t seem to follow any form of pattern - too much water still on the ground. It’s suppose to be in the hight 90’s to low 100’s tomorrow and stay in the upper 90’s through mid week - maybe some of this water will dry up and everything will start hitting water holes more consistently (thinking of your archery antelope hunters starting on Wednesday - it’s all gooooooooood !!!).
All the deer are getting pretty close to being complete when it comes to antler growth. I have not been able to relocate “Growing Pains” since the last sighting of him on July 19th. and we’re starting to believe “Earl” might not have made it through the winter - wouldn’t that be a bummer (maybe he’ll show up durring rifle season for the rut - there’s still hope).
Deep front should score in the mid 170’s and Running Late might have to be a 2008 shooter - he looks great right now, but he’ll be something huge next year if we can let him live. Lucky is a definite 2007 shooter - if both sides matched he’d be in the mid to high 180’s - if he presents a shot, he won’t make it thru the archery season.
It’s getting down to the wire and we’re looking at a great upcoming season(s)/year. Can’t wait to see everyone and start having some fun. Take care and we’ll see you all real soon. Robert
P. S. - Wes got word from one of our eastern Colorado contacts last week and he said he found a 8 point mule deer shed (1 side) - biggest shed he’s ever seen. Wes meets with him this week and I can’t wait to see a picture of this horn - We’ll keep you all posted (especially you Hal).
