Roger sends words regarding his muley hunt.

Just a short note to say thanks for the great hunt.It was just as said Wes
lots of deer ,good bucks to look over every day.Chance was great got me
within 160 yds of my buck it was just as I had dreamed and still have that
picture in my mind.
Hope you dont have any trouble sending the antlers,thank you for letting me
hunt with such good folks

First Buck Ever!!

It is the last day of the season and Jesse Kerns made it work for him. We started the morning off checking out all of the possible bucks that he could take for his first buck ever. We saw deer everywhere. Jesse’s dad Travis Kerns was along to give him the support and encouragement that every dad should do. After a couple of close calls on two other bucks that got the better of us we found this buck chillin in the sun. We made a good 200 yard stalk that got us to 240 yards from the bedded buck. Unable to get any closer because of the lack of cover we decided to have Jesse take the buck. He made one heck of a shot and harvested this heavy three point. A good management deer to be taken off the ranch. Both his dad and I were very excited to see his face after the shot. “Chanse’s Reward”

Chanse Snow has been a huge part of Atkinson Expeditions success this year and this afternoon he got his just reward. Chanse shot this beautiful 5 year old - 170 class buck today (last day of the season). This is Chanse’s best buck to-date, but most certainly not his last !!
Ever since I went down in August with a back injury, Chanse has been right there too pick up the slack and has been a “do what ever it takes to get it done” kinda guy - Thanks for being there Chanse, it’s not going to be same during the off season with you not being around. Congratulations on a great buck and I most definitly owe you one.
My Saturday morning scouting of our eastern Colorado property produced a 190″ buck with some good trash and a split on his G-3 - now all I need is for that buck to stick around for the next 12 days and we’ll be in great shape for the opener on December 1st. (maybe a larger buck will move in, who knows).
The archery hunters in Kansas have havested 3 whitetail bucks in the 130″ to 140″ range over the past 36 hours and all have seen bucks over the 160″ mark - a slamer whitetail is lurking out there somewhere and Wes and Scott will be ready for him when he shows himself. Pictures of those bucks have been posted in the Trophy Room for all our hunters friends and family to enjoy.

Two days and Two Bucks

I forgot to post these guys earlier. So I will do it now, better late then never. David Brown and Brodey Davis hunted with us this year and harvested two awesome management bucks, “Swapped” (named so because his forks are swapped) and “Texan” (because when I found him I was elk hunting with two Texans). David was the first one up to bat so on the evening of the first day we found “Swapped” and we wasted no time getting into position to harvest him. He made a great shot and we hurried to get the pics taken before it was too dark (on the left). Then the next morning we went after “Texan“. After a couple of hours looking for him he finally appeared in the red breaks with 10 or so does. Crawling up a little hill and with Brodey in the prone position we waited patiently for him to turn broadside. When he did Brodey made a perfect shot and dropped him in his tracks. Two days and two great management bucks. This was a fun hunt.

Two Super Management Bucks

The past two days have been very eventful to say the least. The first day of our hunt Roger Bell harvested a super nice three point “Agua“ (right side). Then on our other ranch Rob and his Trophy Hunter Richard Attenberger harvested a bruzer of a buck (seen on last post). What a day for us out here! Then today Rob, Roger, Tony and I went on a mission to find “Fuego“. I have been looking for this buck for three straight days with no luck of finding him. To say the least I was getting a little frustrated. We have been seeing this buck for four months straight in the same area, and when I want to find him he plays hide and seek. Then today out of the blue there he is right in front of us. We were all very excited to have found him. Tony Mandile made a awesome shot and we finally got the better of him. ” Are you Kidding Me “

Tuesday night, November 13, 2007 - I have a discussion with Richard Atkinson concerning our southern property and I could use his help in keeping an eye on it to make sure we don’t miss out on a potential “Big Buck”. Richard agrees and plans on being there at first light the next morning.
Wednesday morning - “opening day” - November 14, 2007 - I picked up Richard Attenberger at 5:45 am and head out for what I think could be a great day full of good bucks and fun, how right was I ? We start off at first light with seeing a great 4×6 - 165″ grower buck that should be a no-brainer for 2008. The rut is in full swing and things are looking good, we are out of cell range for most of the morning until 8:20 am. The voice mail and text alerts ring thru and they are from Richard and Wes - ”Big Buck down here, better come look” was first from Richard. “Rob, Go kill that Big Buck with my dad”, from Wes. The whole time I’m thinking 170″ frame with some extras. I get to Richard and locate the buck and up the score a little - 170″ to 175″ frame with 15″ of extras - boy was I off - alot of those extras are so in-line with his frame, we completely missed them.
This slob of a deer is a 10 x 8 that gross scores 205 7/8 - He has a 177 5/8″ frame with 28 2/8″ of in-line extras -holy cow, are you kidding me !!! Richard Atkinson came thru for us yesterday and I am still in shock. Richard Attenberger put him down for good with one shot from his 300 short mag. and killed the biggest buck of his hunting career (biggest before was a 2 point - that’s an upgrade - Richard also hunted with us in 2006 and killed a double main beam bull, see 2006 elk trophy room photos).
Many thanks go out to all of our 2007 clients and for making the year such a success. Wes and Rachelle will be in Kansas until mid December and Hal Hudson and I have an eastern colorado deer hunt for December that is shaping up to be a great finish to our big game seasons, I can’t wait Hal.
Chanse has been very busy as well with management hunters and has killed some great bucks. Roger Bell harvested “Agua”, a heavy 3×3 yesterday and Tony Mandile harvested “Fuego” - a wide, heavy 3×3 with 3 extras today (I’ll post those photos tomorrow). Congratulations everyone!
